A Sparkling Start to Summer Club!

We kicked off our first Sefton Spotlights Summer Club session this week, and it was brilliant to be back in the room together. There was a real buzz as everyone arrived—some familiar faces we were so glad to see again, and a bunch of new members who slotted right in like they’d been with us for ages.

The session itself was a great mix of energy, creativity, and plenty of silliness. We started with some drama games to break the ice, followed by a some physical and vocal warm-ups, and finished with some group work exploring character and storytelling. Everyone seemed to really throw themselves into it, and it was lovely to see the group supporting each other straight away.

Over the next eight weeks, our sessions will focus on developing the core skills of musical theatre, with a mixture of games, creative challenges, and ensemble work. From acting through song and improvisation to vocal technique and musical theatre dance, including a guest-led workshop and audition-prep sessions, our young performers will explore how to be courageous, collaborative, and captivating on stage. Each session will build skills in a fun and supportive environment, giving children the tools to express themselves confidently and creatively.

A Magical Start: Frozen Jr. Final Curtain Call

Hello and welcome to the Sefton Spotlights blog!

We couldn’t think of a better moment to introduce our blog than after the final performance of Frozen Jr. at the MacKinnon Theatre. What an extraordinary journey it has been! Over 50 talented children from Sefton Spotlights brought Arendelle to life with their singing, dancing, and heartfelt performances in front of an audience totaling nearly 900 people over four nights.

From Elsa’s powerful rendition of Let It Go to the hilarious antics of Olaf and Sven, every cast member shone brightly, earning standing ovations and plenty of proud smiles from the audience. The behind-the-scenes team, including our tech crew, costume department, and parent volunteers, also deserves a huge round of applause for making it all possible.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Sefton Spotlights?

As we pack away the snowflakes and say goodbye to Arendelle, we are already looking forward to the next chapter. Here’s what’s on the horizon for 2025:

  • Summer Club (April): A fun-filled program where children can develop their performance skills and build friendships.

  • Oliver! Jr. Auditions (July): We’ll soon begin preparations for our next big production. Start warming up those voices!

  • West End Trip (September): A chance for our members to experience professional theatre and find inspiration for their own performances.

We’ll be keeping you updated on all these exciting events and more, right here on the blog.

Thank you for your support

Sefton Spotlights wouldn’t be what it is without our wonderful community of parents, guardians, and supporters. Your enthusiasm, encouragement, and help with everything from sewing costumes to cheering in the audience make all the difference.

A particular thank you is due to Yousefi who has provided the incredibly stunning photographs of one of the performances which you can find in our ‘Galleries’ tab. We are sure you will agree that Yousefi has done an incredible job and we highly recommend her if you are in need of a photographer - she captured the excitement and the magic of the performances perfectly.

We can’t wait to share more stories, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and highlights from our productions with you. If you have any photos, memories, or suggestions for future posts, please get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.

Here’s to another fantastic year of musical theatre magic with Sefton Spotlights!

With gratitude,
