Yellow Brick Company Rehearsal Materials
Yellow Brick Company
Your Half-Term Movement & Puppetry Challenge!
Yellow Brick Company, you have one of the most unusual jobs in the whole show!
You help create the incredible world of Oz — from the terrifying Cyclone to the mischievous Crows and the Wicked Witch's Winged Monkeys.
Your work needs fantastic teamwork, imagination and, most importantly, perfect timing!
🌪️ Your MUST-DO Challenges
1. The Cyclone
Think back through the Cyclone sequence we've rehearsed. Can you remember the order of events and your part in creating the storm? Watch the video at the bottom of this page as a reminder of the choreography which inspired ours.
Remember your movements, cues and how you work with the other performers.
2. The Crows
Practise the personality and movement of your Crow - you could use a simple sock puppet to achieve this.
Think about how your Crow looks at things, reacts and communicates without speaking.
Study what happens in Scene 5 and when your character needs to react.
3. The Wizard
As a Wizard Head puppeteers, you will need to know the Wizard’s lines (except for the latter part of Scene 14). Be sure to familiarise yourselves with The Wizards lines and cues so you know when to operate the head.
3. The Winged Monkeys
Think about how your Monkey responds to the Wicked Witch and the other characters.
Remember when to move and when to be completely still.
Only practise the sequences and roles you've actually been taught.
🌟 Your PERFORMANCE Challenge
Can you bring something to life without saying a single word?
Choose one character or effect you've rehearsed and think about:
Where is the audience supposed to be looking?
How can you show emotion using movement?
When should you move, and when should you freeze?
How do you make your movements clear and believable?
You can explore character movements using just your hands, face and body. You don't need to build puppets or use large flags or poles at home.
⭐ Your STAR Challenge
Explain one of your scenes to somebody at home. Can you tell them what happens, what your job is and exactly what you're waiting for before you make your move?
✅ Are You Ready?
I remember the sequences we've rehearsed.
I understand my cues and responsibilities.
I can create a believable character or effect.
I know how important timing and teamwork are.
