Wicked Witch

The Wicked Witch of the West is fierce, commanding and driven by revenge after the death of her sister. She rules through fear, using intimidation, magic and a quick temper to control those around her. Sharp-witted and relentless, she is a constant threat to Dorothy and her friends, pursuing them with obsessive determination. The role offers delicious theatrical villainy, with opportunities for menace and dark humour. Beneath the anger is a character consumed by bitterness and the need for power.

Monologue

Learn this monologue for the role of Wicked Witch.

As for you, my fine lady, just try to stay out of my way. Just try! I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!  Do you think you can drop out of the sky into my country and take what belongs to me? Those ruby slippers were my sister’s, and now they shall be mine.

I’ve watched you skipping down the Yellow Brick Road with that ridiculous Scarecrow, that creaking Tin Man, and that blubbering Lion. You may think friendship will protect you, but I have flying monkeys, spells, and powers far beyond your understanding.

Still, I must admit, you’ve been more troublesome than I expected. But every little girl learns sooner or later that good luck never lasts forever.

What’s that? No! Don’t come any closer! Keep away from me! Oh! I’m melting! Melting! Oh, what a world, what a world! Ohhhh! Ohhhh!

Lyrics

Ha - ha - ha, ho - ho - ho - And a couple of tra - la - las

That's how we laugh the day away, in the Merry Old Land of Oz!

Bzz - bzz - bzz, chirp - chirp - chirp - and a couple of la - di - das

That's how the crickets crick all day, in the Merry Old Land of Oz!

We get up at twelve and start to work at one.

Take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done.

Jolly good fun!

Ha - ha - ha, ho - ho - ho - And a couple of tra - la - las

That's how we laugh the day away, In the Merry Old Land of Oz!
