Tin Man
Tin Man is gentle, thoughtful and deeply emotional, despite believing he has no heart. Rusted stillness gives way to warmth and sensitivity once he joins Dorothy’s journey, revealing a character who feels things profoundly and cares greatly for others. He can be precise and slightly cautious, yet underneath the metallic exterior is tenderness, loyalty and quiet humour.
Monologue

About a year ago, I was chopping that tree, minding my own business, when suddenly it started to rain and right in the middle of a chop, I rusted solid. And I’ve been that way ever since.
At first I didn’t mind so much. It was rather peaceful standing there in the forest with nothing to do but listen to the birds and hope somebody might come along with an oil can. But after a while a fellow starts to think. And when he starts to think, he wonders whether a man made of tin can have a heart at all.
Then Dorothy came by and gave my joints a little oil and, well, I felt almost as good as new. So I went along with her to see the Wizard. We met the Scarecrow and the Lion and before long I found myself worrying about all of them.
I was scared more than once, and I creaked something terrible, but whenever my friends were in trouble I couldn’t seem to stay behind.
Which is funny, because for someone who thought he hadn’t got a heart, I seemed to know exactly what to do with it.

Lyrics
When a man's an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kind-a-human,
If I only had a heart
I'd be tender - I'd be gentle and awful sentimental
Regarding love and art.
I'd be friends with the sparrows ... and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Picture me - a balcony. Above a voice sings low.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
I hear a beat....How sweet.
Just to register emotion, jealousy - devotion,
And really feel the part.
I could stay young and chipper and I'd lock it with a zipper, If I only had a heart.
